Aubrey Rogers Lacrosse Challenge Coins

10 Rules of the Challenge Coin

Challenge coins may seem like simple collectibles to an outsider, but they carry a deep tradition dating back to World War I, symbolizing membership, achievement, and unity. Receiving an Aubrey Rogers Lacrosse challenge coin is considered an honor. Understanding the proper etiquette is key to honoring this tradition and fostering camaraderie. There are specific rules for using challenge coins, and one important aspect is the challenge coin game, which every coin owner should be familiar with.

Here are the 10 essential rules to follow when participating in the challenge coin tradition.

1. The rules of the game should be given or explained to everyone given a coin. It’s rude to call out a challenge if you haven’t broken down the way it works ahead of time.

2. Coins must be carried at all times, and challenges can be called out anywhere and at any time (with exception to a game or practice in session). You can only take four steps and make one reach to grab your coin.

3. The challenger must clearly state whether the challenge is for one drink, or 10 reps of push-ups or sit-ups.

4. If the person challenged fails to produce the coin, the challenge must be honored, and a drink or reps must be served. Each person can only be challenged once.

5. If the person who is challenged manages to produce a coin, the challenger is to fulfill the drink or reps. Be careful of who you challenge.

6. Never hand someone your coin in response to a challenge. Doing so is the same as giving the person the coin. The coin can be placed on the table or surface, and anyone who wants to examine it is honor-bound to return it to its original location.

7. If you lose your coin, you’re responsible to replace it as soon as you possibly can. Losing your coin doesn’t absolve you from responsibility to follow the rules of the game. In other words, you’re buying a lot of drinks or getting pretty fit if you lose it.

8. No duplication without permission. Challenge coins should not be duplicated without permission from the issuing authority (Aubrey Rogers Lacrosse team). This ensures the integrity and rarity of the coin.

9. There are zero exceptions to these rules. They apply to anyone worthy to be given a coin, anyone known to own a coin, or anyone who buys a coin.

10. You must control your coin at all times. It indicates honor, treat it as such.
